Release agent for roof deck
Spraying an old skip-sheathed roof will have foam adhering to old cedar shakes at each gap between the skip sheathing. This foam will later be pulled out as the shakes are removed at a later date. Aside from stapling building paper down the length of gap between the boards, does anyone know of another method such as a pump sprayer with X in it to prevent foam adhering to the old shakes?

Thanks,
Scott

Hi Scott. If the surface you were spraying on was smooth and impervious, a release agent might help, but with wood slats there will be a strong mechanical bond regardless.

I would install whatever's cheaper. Paper, cardboard, cheap paneling etc...

Feel free to staple the paper (or cardboard) to the slats in the field area. The staples will hold just long enough to get a monolithic seal with the foam - and will not fight you when you remove the old roof.

Should work well,
