Exterior Hardening of Buildings 6LB closed cell
Opportunities in South Florida for hardening of buildings. Could a closed cell foam say 6LB be applied to exterior of a building to make it stronger and protect it from flying debris?

6# is rather excessive. 2.5-3lb with a coating should be sufficient. |

2-3lb to absorb the force like with a pad on a gym floor but harder and doesn't rebound. Cover that with a good polyurea to reduce the risk of penetration and you should be good. |

2.5inches of two pound closed cell in a standard 2x4 wall will pass the 100mph 2x4 test for huricane requirments Airpro |

I have experimented with 6 lb sprayfoam on exterior applications. The foam has excellent compressive strength, but lacks flexibility. Consequently, it tends to crack under thermal shock and structural movement. A few manufacturers make a slightly higher density foam 3.5 -4.0 lb that is used in hail belt areas. I would recommend that material for increased protection against flying debris. |
