Closed cell sprayed on load bearing brick walls
I was wondering if any one has any techniques to reduce the moisture build up problem when you spray closed cell foam on a all brick exterior load bearing walls. There are two potential problems with this installation. 1. the excess moisture in the brick can cause a freeze/thaw problem that may cause the exterior brick and mortar to blow out. and 2. interior joists and beams that are built into the brick wall can potential rot due to excess moisture. I am looking for ways to curb or eliminate these potential problems.

Arnold, Are you spraying the inside or the outside? You don't want to cover the peepholes in either case. Foam will allow a slow moisture vapor transmission (MVT) through the foam and brick wall. So you need to know if a vapor retarder element is needed and how thick to install the foam. You would want to perform a hydrothermal modeling on the proposed design to determine how best to insulate the wall. (WUFI simulations work well). Call to discuss at 571-239-5221 |
