Church, Attic Encapsulation - IB or TB Needed?
We are going to be doing an attic encapsulation (10" open cell) for an existing roofline/attic of a church. The flat ceiling is a mixture of dropped ceiling tiles and sheetrock throughout. There is no flooring, storage, or mechanicals up there but there are sprinkler lines (if that matters).

Would an Appendix X Open Cell Foam be sufficient or would we need to apply an ignition or thermal barrier to the foam afterwards?

Thanks,

The final decision on what is required always rests with the Authority Having Jurisdiction over the building and my comments below are based on not seeing photos of the space.
For areas that do have sheetrock protection at the ceiling and the attic is not used for storage and does not contain mechanical then it is most likely suitable for an ignition barrier coating application or the use of an APP X tested foam.
For the areas with dropped ceiling tiles, you will require the application of a thermal barrier in this area, and if this section cannot be isolated from the rest of the attic then you actually woudl need a TB over the full attic area.
Check with your local building official for his say prior to installing to ensure you are meeting the local regulations.
