158
Is there any other contractors using 158 who were told they can no longer get that system, and are being force fed the 178 system?

Personally I spray the 178 with great results.

But my supplier Jamison in Niles, MI 269-684-4451 stocks the 158 too because the spa guys he supplies won’t change to the 178. So give Joe a call and I’m sure he will be happy to help you out.

Thanks Airpro,
But we buy directly from BASF, and they say they are gonna discontinue the 158. I was just trying get some other contractors to rock the boat a little. We've tried the 178 system on some industrial
type work and went right back to the 158 immediately. I think the 178 is primarily for residential applications.

I would still talk to Joe he gives me better pricing than when I was buying direct

WE had that same scenario a couple years ago, weird how a distributor can sell it to you cheaper than buying direct. Thanks for
info Airpro, we shall give him a hollar.

Not to sound to stupid, but is 158, 1.58 lb per cubic foot?

If so, where are you guys spraying this? What kind of yield?

Both 158 and 178 are BASF’s 2 pound foam, though I have never sprayed the 158 it is my understanding that it has a slightly higher density and sprays a little smother my distributer provides it to some spa manufactures.

I also think that the 158 is the older system of the two.

We have sprayed them both, Airpro was right on about the density and which was out first. The 178 was formulated to replace the 158 a couple years ago. Now it seems it may come to fruition. The two systems are both 2.0# class 1 foams, but they are nothing alike. The 158 is a little denser, and does spray smoother, which makes it great for certain applications. On the flip side, the 178 yield is better. If aesthetics matter, the 158 is hands down better. But in this day and age lots of work out there is covered up by sheetrock, so the 178 with the better yield would seem to be the more preferred foam. Dont get me wrong, good applicators can spray 178 just about as smooth as 158, the skin on the 158 looks nicer though.

Good ole Joe, considering he buys in bulk so I'm sure he gets a volume discount and passes that on to you. Plus he has a wealth of knowledge in the biz.
