PolyPro, LLC Applied Spray Foam to Habitat for Humanity House

PolyPro, LLC, based in Broadway, VA, recently helped a local family in need get the house of their dreams, complete with spray foam insulation. The project was organized by the Shenandoah Valley Builders Association (SVBA) and the Green Building Committee of the Association in conjunction with the Central Valley Habitat for Humanity. PolyPro donated the labor required to apply open cell spray polyurethane foam insulation on the home and also supplied the materials at cost.

The build started at the Shenandoah Valley Builders Association's Annual Home and Garden Show. Ken Wells of PolyPro is a member of the SVBA and is also on the Association’s Green Building Committee as well as their Board of Directors. He says, “The Home and Garden Show is the Association’s biggest event of the year and it presented a great opportunity for us to do something positive for the community.”

The wall panels of the house were built onsite, outside of the show, for demonstration and awareness purposes. Then the panels were trucked to the build site and put together. “Not only was it a way to give back and have a positive impact on a family’s life, but it also provided an excellent way for us to demonstrate spray foam application to the attendees of the show.”

The two story, 1,150 square foot house, located in Harrisonburg, VA, will be the new home for a single father with a daughter in second grade and a son in first grade.

This is the second year in a row that the SVBA has built a Habitat for Humanity house at their annual show and the second year that PolyPro donated their services. In 2009, they constructed the house in two large pieces which they then trucked to the build site. PolyPro’s involvement ensures that not only will a family in need get the house they always dreamed of, but that they can also take advantage of all the benefits of spray foam, such as high insulation value and increased energy efficiency. At completion, the home will be EarthCraft and Energy Star certified.
