BPC's services include forensic engineering testing and diagnosis, remediation plans and new home specifications, and building science based training workshops. Workshops address energy auditing and high performance homes for homeowners as well as instructing builders, contractors, HVAC specialists, and architects about overall building performance and the right way to build in a specific climate.
Doug Garrett, President of BPC, is a Certified Energy Manager by the Association of Energy Engineers and is certified by the Building Performance Institute and the Air Conditioning Contractors of America. He also spent five years with Austin Energy's Green Building Program. Building science covers a vast amount of diverse information and requires a great deal of knowledge about electrical insulation, framing, HVAC systems, plumbing, etc.
Garrett referred to building scientists as the new building generalists who recognize the performance of a building as a system.
"We're the new general practitioners like your family doctor trying to coordinate all the specialists," he said. "Somebody's got to oversee the whole process and understand enough about what each specialist is doing to maximize performance."
