Convenience Products Incorporates U.S. Patented Non-stick Valve Technology
Non-Stick Valve Available on One-component Straw Foam and Gun Foam Products
St. Louis, Mo. – Oct. 12, 2011 – Convenience Products, the manufacturer of Touch ‘n Seal and Touch ‘n Foam insulating foams and sealants, now incorporates the first and only U.S. Patented non-stick valve on all of its one-component straw foam and gun foam products.
Until now, when cured polyurethane came in contact with foam valves, it tended to glue the plastic valve stem to the rubber seal, preventing the valve from opening. By utilizing the new patented valve technology, Convenience Products has put an end to this long-standing industry issue.
“Sticking valves have long been a problem for foam fillers” explains Eric Lowenstein, Convenience Product’s Vice President of Marketing. “Moisture-cured polyurethane foam is an excellent adhesive. As a matter of fact, it works so well that if a can of one-component foam lies on its side or is upside down for an extended period, the cured polyurethane comes in contact with the valve and glues the stem to the rubber seal and the valve won’t open.”
When moisture from the air permeates into a can of foam and comes in contact with the polyurethane prepolymer, it cures the polyurethane. Once the cured polyurethane glues the plastic stem to the rubber seal of the aerosol valve, the product cannot be dispensed. The patented technology includes specifically designed plastic and rubber materials that resist the gluing effect of moisture cured polyurethane foam.
“Essentially, through use of this non-stick valve, we are able to reduce both product waste and user frustration,” Lowenstein said. “With this new technology, a stuck valve is a thing of the past.”
