DC 315 Passes as a 15-minute Thermal Barrier Over Icynene LDC50 Spray Foam
The NFPA 286 testing was done in San Antonio, TX with Intertek Laboratory
IFTI and Icynene have announced that they have qualified a new spray-applied thermal barrier (IFTI’s DC 315) by passing a certified NFPA 286 test with Intertek. This provides designers and builders with new flexibility for including Icynene in ceiling plenums, exposed roof assemblies, and accessible attics connected to habitable space. The testing was conducted at the Intertek Laboratory in San Antonio, TX.
As a one-coat, water-based latex paint with a coverage rate of ~80 sq. ft. / gallon, DC 315 is the most economical thermal barrier coating available. It meets the VOC emission requirements for use in classroom and office environments as defined in the CA DHS Standard Practice. Thus, the testing requirements are met to qualify the product as a low ¬emitting material in the “Collaborative for High Performance Schools” rating system. The product applies like regular latex paint using an airless sprayer, and being water ¬based, and offers easy clean up.
IFTI is seeking strategic partnerships with foam companies that are looking for a water based paint solution for thermal or ignition barriers over spray foam insulation.
DC 315 has now passed thermal barrier testing, with both UL1715 and NFPA 286 certified tests, over many different types of spray polyurethane insulation. Please contact IFTI at 949-975-8588 for further information or to request a copy of the certified testing documents as well as effective spread rates for each foam tested.
“We have many more tests scheduled in the coming months so keep checking back with us for updates” said Gary Wolfe, “We are on track to becoming the preferred approved thermal barrier and ignition barrier coating for the spray polyurethane insulation industry. We’ve now demonstrated how easy and effective DC 315 is over a wide variety of foams, and we are pleased to offer such a needed solution for the industry”.
