Spray Foam Roofing Professional Fatally Wounded in Roof Accident
30 year construction industry veteran falls through roof during bid inspection

December 30, 2008 - Michael "Mike" Joseph Hall, age 55, passed away on Tuesday, December 30, 2008.  His company was Allphaze Spray Foam Roofing & Coatings.

Mike was in the construction business for over 30 years and fell in love with Spray Foam once Guardian Roofing started doing SPF in New Orleans a few years ago.  Mike was a salesman for Guardian Roofing in New Orleans for quite a while before he went on his own last year.

“We had just finished several joint jobs throughout the holidays in the French Quarter,” reports his good friend and business associate, Steven Loga, from Alpha One Spray Foam & Roof Coatings, LLC.  “He basically did the estimates and the demolition in New Orleans for me and I came in and did the Spray Foam and Elastomeric Coatings.”

According to sources, Mike actually fell “through,” not off of, a 30 ft roof during an initial bid inspection.  In the course of the fall and the impact, he was fatally wounded and pronounced dead at the scene.

“Mike was a good friend, excellent contractor to work for and overall, one of the most cautious people that I had been associated with in the construction business,” claims Loga.

If this could happen to Mike, it could happen to anyone of us. The problem usually doesn't stem from the work that we have to do but rather on the first initial visit to assess the situation. Loga states, “I have walked countless roofs over the past 6 months and only once or twice was I concerned that I may fall through. Usually if there is a concern, we will bring in a structural engineer to either confirm or deny our concerns.

I guess that my point is that we all have different levels of experience. Mike Hall had 30 years of roofing experience and was careful almost to a fault.”
