How does spray foam insulation compare with glass fiber batts and blownin cellulose?
Spray foam insulation adds strength and rigidity to your home. Glass fiber batts and blownin cellulose do not.
R-value of glass fiber batts is 3.5 per inch. Blown in cellulose is 4 per inch. Spray foam insulation has an R-value of 6.5 (±)
Glass fiber batts will not stop air leakage. Blown in cellulose will slow down air leakage. Spray foam insulation will stop air leakage.
Glass fiber batts will sag over time. Blown in cellulose will settle over time. This will leave sections un-insulated over time. Spray foam insulation completely adheres to wood and sheathing and is rigid. This will give your home a permanent air barrier to heat loss and air entry.
Glass fiber batts absorbs moisture. Spray foam insulation does not.
Spray Foam insulation, with less energy use and lower cost, pays for itself over time. Other types of insulation do not.
